the world teaches
you can measure
the weight
of almost anything.
the weight of a mountain.
the weight of an ingredient.
scientists can weigh
the tiniest thing we’ve ever discovered
and the largest thing
we’ve ever known.
but
no one
has ever answered
one question.
how much does grief weigh?
how much does anger weigh?
how much does regret weigh?
how much does forgiveness weigh
when it goes unspoken?
i’ve seen people
bend beneath
the weight of loss.
i’ve watched shoulders
collapse…
beneath burdens
no one else
could see.
i’ve seen others
fall…
under the stress
of something
that never showed up
on a scale.
fear
is heavy.
grief
is heavier.
shame…
can crush
a soul.
but hope
hope is nearly
weightless.
you can’t measure it.
you can’t hold it.
you can’t prove
it’s there.
and yet
it’s strong enough
to keep us standing.
maybe
strength
was never measured
by what we carry.
maybe
strength
is measured
by what we refuse
to let go of.
hope.
because sometimes
the thing
that weighs
almost nothing
is the only thing
holding us up.
