let my actions be of
my own. thoughts and heart,
lifting others up or reaching
down to care for those in need,
instead of shouting my own
name above the chaotic rabble
of the world in competition.
teach me the strength
that kneels without shame,
that does not demand a
place seated at the head
of the table when it could
lift up a cross.
the guidance of the world misleads, pushing to
self-promote, to climb to the clamor of applause,
but christ lowered himself;
became empty so others
could be lifted.
somewhere between the
glory of heaven and the
splintered structure of
earth, love still bent
low enough to find me.
