before the notifications.
before the noise.
before the world
calls my name.
the comfort of silence
greets the first
drip of coffee.
the aroma
fills the room
while the steam
reaches upward,
trying
to escape the morning.
this is the only part
of my day
that doesn’t belong
to someone else.
no phone calls.
no patients.
no deadlines.
no expectations.
just me…
trying to find me.
trying to clear the clutter
before the world
reminds me
who it expects me to be.
maybe…
that’s why we chase quiet.
not because
we love silence
more than noise,
but because
it’s the only place
we can hear
what our own thoughts
sound like.
the coffee
was never the point.
it was permission.
permission
to sit.
to breathe.
to focus.
to simply exist.
permission
to be yourself
before the world
asks you
to become
everything else.
eventually…
the sun climbs higher.
the notifications arrive.
the phone rings.
the house comes alive.
the coffee
has gone cold.
and that’s when i realize…
those quiet minutes
did exactly
what they were meant to do.
they reminded me
who i was
before the world
started talking.
